#RV Red Ravens Defeat the Panthers of Ellsworth CC 31-7

Ellsworth, IA - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team traveled to Ellsworth Iowa and defeated the Panthers of Ellsworth CC 31-7.  With the victory, Coffeyville's overall record improves to 3-2.

On Ellsworth's second possession of the game, Red Raven sophomore defensive lineman Kalil Alexander intercepted an Ellsworth pass to give Coffeyville excellent field position at the Panther's 27-yard line.  On the very next play, Coffeyville jumped on the scoreboard first with a 27-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Isaiah Valez to sophomore receiver Jalen Clea just four minutes into the first half to take an early 7-0 lead. 

As both teams settled in defensively, the only other score of the first half was by Coffeyville's sophomore kicker Forrest Taylor.  With 6:38 remaining in the second quarter, Taylor booted a 51-yard field goal to give the Ravens a 10-0 lead going into halftime.

The third quarter is where the Red Ravens livened up the scoreboard.  Coffeyville came out after halftime and received the football and promptly went on a 6-play 60-yard drive capped off by quarterback Velez's two-yard scamper for a touchdown.  Taylor's extra point was good and Coffeyville had a 17-0 lead over the Panthers at the 11:57 mark of the third quarter.  Roughly six minutes later after a lost Red Raven fumble and a long 49-yard Ellsworth pass, the Panthers scored on a short two-yard pass to pull the score to 17-7 at the 6:36 point of the third quarter.  On the very next Red Raven possession, Coffeyville zoomed down the field going 56 yards in three plays scoring on a 32-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Jacqez Barksdale.  The Taylor extra point was good and Coffeyville pushed ahead 24-7 at the 4:48 mark of the third quarter.

Coffeyville ended the scoring early in the fourth quarter capping off a 13-play drive that spanned nearly six minutes with a Romel Webb two-yard touchdown run to give the Ravens the final 31-7 victory.

Game leaders for Coffeyville include quarterback Isaiah Valez who was 15-27 in the game for 233 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions, running back Barksdale who had 69 yards on 11 attempts and a touchdown as well as wide receiver Jalen Clea who had two receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown.

The Red Raven defense was opportunistic snagging five interceptions on the day with freshman defensive back Jabin Ford grabbing two and sophomores Amir Renwick, Bishop Fitzgerald, and Kalil Alexander each picking off one each.

#RV Coffeyville (3-2) will return to action on Saturday, Oct 8th with a home matchup against the current #7 ranked Iowa Central Tritons (4-1).  The October 8th game will serve as Coffeyville Community College's 2022 Homecoming.
