#11 Red Raven Football Loses Heart of Texas Bowl 28-7 to #15 Tyler JC

Commerce, Texas - The #11th ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team traveled to Commerce Texas to play the #15 ranked Tyler Junior College Apaches.  The final outcome on the scoreboard had the Red Ravens losing 28-7 to the Apaches to end Coffeyville's season.  The Red Ravens post an overall record of 6-3 for the 2021 season including the 2021 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference regular-season title.

After Tyler won the coin flip, the game started with Coffeyville receiving the ball.  On their first possession, the Red Ravens could not gain any traction and went three and out.  After a 43 yard punt by Red Raven punter Owen Lawson, the Apaches of Tyler JC took over possession at their own 39-yard line.  The Apaches put together a 9 play, 51-yard drive that was capped off by a 27-yard field goal to take an early 3-0 lead over the Ravens.

On their ensuing possession, the Ravens again went three and out and punted back to Tyler.  Just like their first possession, Tyler went down the field and again the Raven defense stiffened to only allow a 40-yard field goal that saw Tyler take a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

Coffeyville's offense finally got on track in the second quarter as the Ravens were able to put together a 9 play 57-yard drive that was capped off with a 12-yard Jakson Thomson touchdown pass to tight end Andrew Schnackenburg.  The Forrest Taylor extra point was good and the Red Ravens took the 7-6 lead into halftime.

Tyler quickly took back the lead after halftime as they received the third-quarter kickoff and went down the field in five plays scoring on a 22-yard rushing touchdown to take back the lead at 13-6.

On Coffeyville's second possession of the second half, a bad snap by Coffeyville allowed the Apaches to score a safety to extend their lead out to 15-7.

Tyler started the fourth quarter with a 20-yard touchdown pass to push their lead out to 21-7 (the extra point was blocked by Red Raven Reise Collier).

The final score of the game came on a 14-yard touchdown pass for Tyler JC with 10:22 left in the fourth quarter.

For the game, the Red Ravens only mustered 180 yards of total offense to Tyler's 390.  Coffeyville went 2 of 12 on third down compared to 5 of 15 for Tyler.  Coffeyville's rushing attack which had been potent all season was only able to gain 34 yards in the game.

The MVP for Coffeyville as chosen by the Heart of Texas bowl committee was tight end Andrew Schnackenburg for this 12-yard touchdown reception.  Tyler's MVP went to their quarterback General Booty who passed for 295 yards in the game.
