#6 Red Ravens Lose to #14 Garden City 39-11

Coffeyville, Kan. - The #6 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team suffered their first loss of the season in a 39-11 defeat at the hands of the #14 ranked Garden City Broncbusters.  With the loss, Coffeyville's overall record falls to 5-1.  The 5-1 record currently has the Ravens in second place in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) standings behind Independence's 6-0 record.

The Broncbusters started quickly out of the gates scoring their first touchdown just two minutes into the game.  On their second drive of the game, Garden City put together an 11 play 90-yard drive to reach the endzone.  However, Coffeyville was able to block the extra point try and Raven freshman Zahquan Frazier scooped up the block and raced the other direction untouched to score the two-point defensive point after.  Garden City led Coffeyville 13-2 at this point.

After Coffeyville's sophomore punter George Eberle punted a 72-yard punt that was downed at the Garden's two-yard line, the Raven defense managed to tackle the Garden City running back on their first play in the end zone for the safety.  Garden City led Coffeyville with the unusual 13-4 score.

Garden City scored another touchdown at the end of the first quarter to extend their lead out to 19-4 at the end of the quarter.

Over the second and third quarters, Garden City moved farther ahead, leading 39-4 over Coffeyville to start the fourth quarter.

The Ravens were able to add a fourth-quarter 51-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Will Bohn to sophomore receiver Isaiah Taylor.  With the touchdown, the Ravens pulled within 39-11 for the final score.

Garden City managed 196 yards rushing and 302 yards passing for a total of 498 yards of offense in the game compared to the Ravens' 63 yards of rushing and 189 yards of passing for a total of 252 yards.

Coffeyville will look to get back on track as they travel north to Independence Kansas to play the #4 NJCAA ranked Pirates on Sunday, October 31st.  kickoff for the KJCCC regular-season finale in Indy is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
