Red Raven Offense Struggles in 20-0 Loss at Garden City

Garden City, Kan. - In a matchup with the #9 ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team against the #5 ranked Garden City Community College Broncbuster, the Red Ravens fall 20-0 to the Broncbusters.  With the loss, Coffeyville's overall record falls to 3-2 on the unusual 2021 NJCAA spring season.  It was the fifth straight loss to Garden City for the Red Ravens and the first time in 80 all-time meetings that Garden City shut out the Red Ravens.

Coffeyville's offense on the day was simply stymied by the Broncbuster's defense.  Coffeyville was only able to manage 44 yards of offense in the first half and overall managed 177 yards of offense for the game.  The Red Ravens had 90 rush yards on the day to go along with 87 passing yards.

Top performers for Coffeyville on the offensive side included freshmen running backs Dorian Lewis with three rushes for 25 yards and Torrance Farmer with 5 rushes for 24 yards.  The top receiver for the Ravens was redshirt freshman Bryce Childress with three catches for 36 yards.

Even with the Raven offense not clicking, the Raven defense played strong and kept Coffeyville in the game until late in the fourth quarter.  The first half saw the defense give up a touchdown and a couple of field goals to keep the halftime score at a manageable 13-0.  Coffeyville kept the score 13-0 late into the fourth quarter when Garden City scored their last touchdown to push the score out to 20-0.

Freshman linebacker Reece Collier led the Ravens on the defensive side with 13 total tackles. Freshman linebacker Jhalyn Shuler and redshirt freshman defensive back Tavyn Jackson were second on the team in tackles, both with 7 total tackles.

Coffeyville will finish up their regular season on Sunday, May 23rd when they host the #7 ranked Independence Pirates at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
