Red Raven Football Earns First Victory of Year with 38-10 Defeat of Dodge City

Dodge City, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team earned their first win of the season with a convincing 38-10 defeat of the Dodge City Conquistadors.  The win evens up the 2020-21 Red Ravens overall record at 1-1.

Big plays were the name of the game.  Coffeyville's scores all came on big plays that seemed to rattle the Conquistadors of Dodge City from the start.

Coffeyville opened up the scoring less than a minute into the game with redshirt freshman running back Cortney Jackson ripping off a 56 touchdown run.  With the extra point added, the Red Ravens had an early 7-0 lead.

Red Raven freshman kicker Skyler Seagraves next tacked a 26-yard field goal on the board for Coffeyville to extend the first quarter lead out to 10-0.

Meanwhile, while the Raven offense was clicking, the Raven defense was giving fits to the Dodge City Offense.  Early in the second quarter, the Raven defense forced a three and out deep in Dodge City territory.  Dodge shanked the ensuing punt and a good return by the Ravens set up the offense at the Dodge City 15 yard line.  On the very first offensive play after the punt, Raven running back Cortney Jackson struck again with a quick 15-yard touchdown run.  Seagraves connected on the extra point, and Coffeyville had a 17-0 lead midway through the second quarter.  The rest of the second quarter was a back and forth and Coffeyville went into halftime with the 17-0 lead.

The next scoring opportunity for the Ravens came at the 9:12 mark of the third quarter.  Dodge City attempted a field goal and the Raven defense was able to block the kick and redshirt freshman defensive back Tavyn Jackson scooped up the ball off the block and ran 70 yards for the score the other way.  With the score and Seagraves's extra point, Coffeyville extended their lead to 24-0.

The Ravens had already scored on a long run and on a special teams play, so next up for Coffeyville was a long pass play.  At the 6:00 mark of the third quarter, Raven redshirt freshman quarterback Kolbi Langhi connected with redshirt freshman wide receiver Bryce Childress on a five-yard slant route that Childress then took to the house for a 51-yard touchdown.  At this point, Coffeyville was up 31-0 over Dodge City.

Dodge was able to get some points on a fourth-quarter field goal as well as a fourth-quarter touchdown to pull the score within 31-10.  However, Coffeyville was not done scoring.  Coffeyville found another way to score, how about a long interception return.  At the 5:38 mark of the fourth quarter, Raven DB Tavyn Jackson, fresh off the earlier blocked kick scoop and score, intercepted a Dodge City pass and returned it 30 yards for his second score of the game.  That was it for Dodge City and Coffeyville ended the game with the 38-10 victory.

In the end, the Ravens put up 292 yards of offense to Dodge City's 163.

Next up for Coffeyville will be their third straight road game to start the season.  Coffeyville is scheduled to play Sunday, April 18 at Highland Community College.  Game time in Highland Kansas is set for 1:00 p.m.
