Ravens Can't Hold Onto the #3 Broncbusters, Lose 13-39

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven football team lost at home to the Garden City Community College Broncbusters, 39-13.  The loss evened the Red Ravens overall record to 3-3.

The Red Ravens came out of the locker room to start the game with new black on black uniforms and initially it looked like the new uni's were just the thing to get the Red Ravens going.

The crowd at Veterans Memorial stadium had just barely gotten comfortable in their seats when Red Raven sophomore reciever Terry Wright, from Memphis Tennessee, took the opening kick-off and raced 90 yards for an opening kick-off return touchdown.  The extra point by Red Raven freshmen kicker Cooper Lee, from Desoto Kansas, was blocked by the Broncbusters and ten seconds into the game, Coffeyville had a 6-0 lead.

However, from that point on, the Red Ravens did not have much to celebrate.  Midway through the first quarter, Coffeyville's offense was called for intentional grounding while in their own endzone, which handed a safety to the Broncbusters.  Coffeyville's lead was cut to 6-2.

Early in the second quarter, Garden City drove 80 yards in three plays, capped off by a seven yard touchdown pass.  Garden's extra point was blocked and on the scramble for the loose ball the Broncbusters were able to recover it and advance it for the two point conversion.  The Broncbusters took the lead 10-6.

Next up for the Broncbuster offense was a six play 40 yard drive that Garden capped off with a four yard touchdown run.  The Garden City extra point extended their lead out to 18-6.

After trading punts to end the second quarter, Garden led Coffeyville 18-6 at halftime.

The third quarter was a defensive struggle with Garden City and Coffeyville exchanging punts through most of the quarter.  The Broncbusters were able to put more points on the board late in the third quarter with a 23 yard touchdown run and extra point to extend the lead over Coffeyville to 25-6.

The fourth quarter started with more scoring from Garden City with the Broncbusters scoring on a two yard touchdown reception to go up 32-6 on Coffeyville.

With approximately five minutes remaining in the game, Red Raven sophomore quarterback Coleman Key, from Broken Arrow Oklahoma, was able to hook up with freshmen receiver Isaiah McIntyre, from Tampa Florida, for a five yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 32-13.

Coffeyville gave up a late touchdown to Garden and the game ended 13-39 in favor of the Broncbusters.

The stats for the game leaned heavily towards Garden City with the Broncbusters outgaining the Red Ravens 477 to 244 yards and Garden City out rushing the Red Ravens 297 to 36 yards.

Garden City's Tra Minter had a total of 30 rushes for 197 yards and two touchdowns.

Coffeyville will return to action next Saturday, October 15th for a road game at Miami Oklahoma to take on Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (NEO).  Kick-off for the game is set for 6:00 pm.
