Red Raven Baseball Sweep Home Doubleheader vs Labette

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball team swept the Labette Cardinals 6-3 and 5-3 in a home doubleheader.  With the two victories, the Red Ravens improved their overall season record to 14-16 including a 4-8 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.

Game #1 - Red Ravens 6 Cardinals 3 - 7 innings

In game #1 Coffeyville jumped out early scoring two in the second inning and two more in the third inning to take an early 4-0 lead after three.  Ravens tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to head into the sixth inning up 6-0.  The cardinals did score two in the sixth and another in the seventh to close the gap, but the Ravens held them off to secure the 6-3 victory.

Raven sophomore Jack Bell, freshman Tate Moody, and sophomore Drake Unrein all went 2 for 3 in the game.  Coffeyville right-hander Ricky Hernandez threw the complete game in winning his fifth game (5-1) of the season. Hernandez went seven innings allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out four.

Game #2 - Red Ravens 5 Cardinals 3 - 9 innings

Game #2 had the Red Ravens coming from behind and scoring four runs in the eighth inning to earn the 5-3 victory.  Labette jumped out in front scoring one in the first and two in the second to take a 3-0 lead after two innings.  Coffeyville scored a run in the fourth to pull within 2-1 and then scored the four runs in the eighth to pull ahead 5-3 for the win.

Coffeyville sophomore shortstop Mason Holton powered the Ravens going 3 for 3 in the game with a double and a triple while driving in four runs.  Red Raven sophomore right-hander Grayson Walden entered the game to start the fifth inning and pitched five innings to earn the victory to improve his record to 2-1 on the season.  Walden pitched five allowing no earned on zero hits striking out three with no walks.

Coffeyville will return to action on Thursday, March 31st with a home doubleheader scheduled against the Greyhounds of Fort Scott.  Game times are scheduled for 1:00 and 4:00 pm at Walter Johnson Park.
