Red Ravens Earn Dramatic 5-4 Walk-Off Victory Over Hutchinson

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball team defeated the Hutchinson Blue Dragons in both games of a home doubleheader with an 8-1 victory in the first game, and a dramatic 5-4 victory in the second game.  With the two victories, the Red Ravens improved their overall season record to 10-7.

Game #1 - Red Ravens 8   Blue Dragons 1   (7 innings)

Game #1 had the Red Ravens scoring early and often.  Coffeyville scored one run in the first, three in the second, and one each in the third and fourth to take a 6-0 lead into the top of the fifth inning.   The Blue Dragons grabbed a run back in the top of the sixth, but Coffeyville then scored two in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 8-1 victory.

Red Raven sophomore center fielder Jack Bell lead the Ravens at the plate going 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs while scoring 2 runs and stealing 3 bases.  

Freshman right-hander Ricky Hernandez went the distance for Coffeyville on the mound to improve his record to 3-0 on the year.  Hernandez pitched 7 innings allowing 1 earned on 5 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1.

Game #2 - Red Ravens 5   Blue Dragons 4     (9 innings)

The second game of the doubleheader proved to be a little more dramatic.  Coffeyville got on the board first scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Hutchinson answered right back scoring 2 runs in the top of the fifth.  The Ravens plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead to the top of the ninth.  In the top of the ninth with 2 outs, the Blue Dragons scored 2 on a sharply hit single to left center to take the 4-3 lead going to the bottom of the ninth.  The first 2 batters for the Ravens in the bottom of the ninth reach base via walks.  After a sacrifice bunt and a fielder's choice, the Ravens were down to their last batter.   Coffeyville's freshman second baseman Carson Schrack clubbed a clean single through the left side to drive in 2 and give the Ravens the 5-4 walk-off victory!

Schrack has been a menace to start the season for the Ravens, through the first 17 games of the season, Schrack is batting .470 with 24 RBIs.

Red Raven sophomore righty Aaron Geisler was tagged with a no-decision, however, Geisler went 7 strong allowing 2 unearned on 3 hits while striking out 6.

 

Coffeyville will open up its 2023 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) schedule this week as they will play a 4-game series against the Tigers of Cowley College.  Coffeyville will play a doubleheader at Arkansas City, Kansas on Thursday, March 9th against the Tigers with game times set for 1p/3p.  The Ravens will then host the Tigers on Saturday, March 11th at Walter Johnson Park with game times set for 1p/3p.
