Coffeyville, Kan. -  The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball Team opened up their 2022 season with a 3-game home sweep of the Southwestern Community College Spartans.  The 3-0 record for the Red Ravens has them sitting atop the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) early season East Division standings.  In the opening 3-game series, Coffeyville hit .388 as a team with a .490 on-base percentage.

Game #1 (Friday) - Red Ravens 7  SWCC 0

Offensively, the Ravens pounded out seven hits with freshman first baseman Jackson Mannix and freshman designated hitter Ryan Ready each going 2 for 3 in the game.

On the mound, Red Raven sophomore left-hander Chat Hays (1-0) went five strong allowing no runs on two hits while striking out eight and walking one.

Game #3 (Saturday) - Red Ravens 8  SWCC 6

Coffeyville had their first real adversity in Game #3 as they had to come back two different times during the game before they were able to secure the 8-6 victory.

SWCC struck first in the game scoring three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.  The Red Ravens immediately answered in the bottom of the fourth scoring four runs to take the 4-3 lead after four innings.  Coffeyville pushed a single run across in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead out to 5-3.  SWCC stayed alive scoring three in the top of the eight to put the pressure on Coffeyville with a 6-5 lead.  Again, the Red Ravens answered right back scoring three of their own in the bottom of the eighth to regain the lead 8-6.  SWCC faltered in the top of the ninth and the Red Ravens had the 8-6 victory and the opening series sweep.

Red Raven shortstop Gonzalez stayed hot going 2 for 4 from the plate while sophomore left fielder Austin Gonzales also went 2 for 4 while hitting a double and driving in two.  Second baseman Korben Ford went 1 for 3 with a triple.
