Raven Baseball Goes 1-2 Over the Weekend

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven men's baseball team competed at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond Oklahoma over the weekend.  The Ravens went 1-2 in the three games they competed in.  With five games into their season, the Ravens are currently 1-4 overall.

Coffeyville opened up the weekend at UCO with a Saturday morning (Feb 15th, 11:00 am) game against Northern Oklahoma-Enid.  Coffeyville was on the losing side of a 12-2 score (8 innings) in the game.  The Ravens gave up 12 runs on 7 hits and 4 errors.  The Ravens managed 2 runs on 4 hits and 1 Northern Oklahoma error.  Sophomore Easton Rindt had the Raven's lone RBI in the game with a double to center to score Edsael Torres.

The Ravens played two games on Sunday with the Ravens winning the first against Cloud County 9-3.  The key to victory in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Ravens were able to score 5 runs to extend out to a 7-1 lead at the time before closing the game with the 9-3 victory.

The second game on Sunday came against Seminole State.  In a tight pitcher's duel, the Ravens could not find enough offense and found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 score.  Pitching for the Ravens was right-handed, redshirt freshman Frank Peterson.  Peterson went 4 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits.  Raven sophomore relief pitcher Dempsey Battin combined with freshmen relievers Mac Cheney and Tayler Mahoney to pitch 3 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and no runs.  Trey McClelland provided the offense, grounding into a fielder's choice to score redshirt freshman Jayden Kay in the bottom of the 1st inning.

The Ravens will return to action with a scheduled doubleheader in Baldwin City Kansas against Baker University JV.  Games are scheduled for Thursday, February 20th at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
