Red Raven Baseball Lose Close Games in Season Opening Double Header

Feb 8, 2020

In a season-opening doubleheader at Butler County, the 2020 Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball team lost both games in close fashion 2-1 and 4-0.

Game one saw the Ravens jump out early with sophomore Trey McClelland doubling to left field to drive in sophomore Jackson Wilcox during the top of the first inning.  However, the Ravens were not able to score again and Butler would score an unearned run in the seventh and again in the ninth to take the 2-1 victory in game one.  Starting pitcher for the Ravens was sophomore right-hander Alex Galvez who went five innings allowing no hits and striking out seven.

The Ravens offense in game two went silent with the Ravens not able to muster a run across the plate. Butler was able to get four (one unearned) across in the Butler 4-0 game two defeat of Coffeyville.

Both games combined saw the Ravens outhit Butler (7-6) but errors (6 total for Coffeyville) and unearned runs (3 of Butler's 6 runs on the day were unearned) were the downfalls on the day for Coffeyville.

After the game, Red Raven Head Coach Jake Martin stated: "Our pitchers looked good today, but we just couldn't get our hits together to score runs".

The Ravens look to bounce back this weekend with games scheduled at the University of Central Oklahoma in Norman Oklahoma.  The Ravens are scheduled to play Oklahoma Christian JV on Saturday (Feb 15) at 6:00p and Cloud Country (11:00a) and Seminole State College (5:00p) on Sunday (Feb 16).
