Coach Pryor only had one thing to say about his boys, and it was a statement of wonderful praise: “It was a wonderful team effort. Everyone did a real fine job. In fact, it was a tremendous championship job.”

The band played, the fans cheered, and the Coffeyville Junior College Red Ravens took in every bit of it as they were welcomed home from Big Springs, TX, where they won the National Junior College Track and Field Championship.

The Ravens were met at the state line and escorted to the port of entry on South Walnut by college cheerleaders and police escort. At that point, the Ravens boarded a fire truck and were escorted to the Plaza in downtown Coffeyville.

After the boys were congratulated by everyone close enough to do so, the program began with Attorney Joe Levy acting as emcee. Short talks were given by Mayor Fred L. Hedges, Coffeyville Junior College Dean Karl Wilson, Superintendent of Schools V. A. Klotz, Coffeyville College Athletic Director Warren “Dink” Littrell, President of the College Student Council Phil Knedlik.

Finally, it came to Coach Pryor’s turn to speak. Pryor spoke of his boys and pointed out that they started after the National Championship last year. He said, “The boys have done more than any coach could ever ask.”

He introduced each boy as he beamed with every ounce of pride that could be garnered.
