Michael Elrod – Head Coach, CCC Shooting Sports Program

Michael Elrod grew up in the small town of Thayer, Kansas, just north of Coffeyville, where he developed a lifelong passion for hunting and the outdoors. He fondly recalls the days when quail were plentiful and hunting was a regular family event. One of Michael's most cherished memories is a photograph of himself at age 10, alongside his two brothers, their beloved hunting dog named Blue, and their father in the field with their quail harvest.

Later, Michael lived in Protection, Kansas, a small town in Western Kansas, where he continued to enjoy countless pheasant and quail hunts that further shaped his love for shooting sports. His experiences in the field have cultivated not just a skill, but a deep appreciation for the sport, its values, and the connection it fosters within families and communities.

As the Head Coach of Coffeyville Community College’s new Shooting Sports Program, Michael is eager to share his passion with the next generation of athletes. “Shooting sports is the best sport, in my opinion,” he says. “It can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter your age or skill level. Whether you're naturally athletic or looking for a new challenge, shooting sports are designed for all. It is a family-friendly sport that offers lifelong enjoyment, and you might just discover a hidden talent you never knew you had!”

Michael is excited to lead the new program at CCC, where students will not only develop skills in shooting but also build confidence, discipline, and a sense of community. He invites everyone, from beginners to seasoned shooters, to come out, give it a shot, and see where the sport can take them!
