The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven men's basketball team traveled to Hutchinson Kansas and stunned the undefeated (20-0) #2 ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons. The Red Ravens handed the Blue Dragons their first loss of the year in a thrilling 86-85 victory for the Red Ravens.
The win improves the Red Raven's overall record to 13-8 and 9-8 in Kansas Jayhawk Conference play.
Through out most of the game, the Red Ravens found themselves playing catch-up to the #2 ranked Blue Dragons. Coffeyville was trailing 38-46 at halftime.
However, the second half found Coffeyville inching their way back till the Red Ravens found themselves in a one point game with just a few minutes remaining in the game.
Over the final two minutes, Red Raven forward Tedrick Wolfe had an tip in field goal that extended a Red Raven lead to three at 84-81. On the next possession, the Blue Dragons made two foul shots to pull the game to within one at 84-83 with 47 seconds remaining in the game. After a Red Raven missed field goal, the Blue Dragons had what looked like a breakaway layup when freshmen Red Raven guard Travis Washington streaked in for the strip and the steal. Hutchinson subsequently fouled Wolfe who made both free throws to push the Coffeyville lead to 86-83. Hutchinson made a final two point basket at the buzzer and Coffeyville had the 86-85 victory.
Stat leaders for Coffeyville include Travis Washington (22 points, 5 assists and 6 steals), Tedrick Wolfe (17 points and 13 rebounds), sophomore forward Greg Poleon (16 points and 7 rebounds), and freshmen guard Malik Keith (13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals).
Next up for the Red Ravens will be a home game on Wednesday, February 1st against Cloud County. Tip-off in Nellis Hall is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
