Red Raven Volleyball Opens Up NJCAA Championships With Sweep of First Two Opponents

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Volleyball team opened up their NJCAA title defense in impressive fashion, sweeping their first two opponents in the 2019 NJCAA div II Volleyball Championships in Charleston West Virginia.

The #2 ranked Red Ravens opened up the NJCAA Tournament by sweeping #15 Montgomery College in the first game of the day (25-8, 10 & 17) to advance to the quarterfinal round where they faced #10 Grand Rapids later the same afternoon.  The Red Ravens took care of business vs Grand Rapids with a sweep (29-27, 15, 20) to advance to the semifinals on Friday. 

Coffeyville is on a current six-match NJCAA Championship Tournament streak without losing a set.  You must go all the way back to the 2017 Championship match that the Red Ravens won 3-1 over Owens CC to find a lost set for the Ravens.  The Red Ravens won the 2018 NJCAA title without losing a set in the tournament.

In the first game vs Montgomery, Coffeyville sophomore Faith Simpson was outstanding hitting 18 kills while tallying a game-high 21.5 points.  Simpson's teammate, sophomore Seliann Concepcion had a double double for the Red Ravens hitting 10 kills to go along with 11 digs.  Sophomore Aleyshka Quinones pitched in with 28 assists and 3 service aces.

Coffeyville's game vs Grand Rapids saw the Red Ravens pass the offense around with 5 players scoring 7 or more kills.  Leading the way for the Red Ravens was Faith Simpson and freshman Zoey Schmidt both with 9 kills, sophomore's Seliann Concepcion and Erianna Murray both had 8 kills and sophomore Destiny Thomas helped out with 7 kills in the match.

Coffeyville will play in the semifinals tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 22nd) vs # 3 ranked Scottsdale CC.  The match is scheduled for 5:30 pm CST.
