Coffeyville, Kan. - This game was a matchup between the top two teams in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) women's soccer Division I Eastern division. Earlier in the year (Sept. 14th) the Red Ravens had traveled to El Dorado Kansas and played the Butler Grizzlies to a 1-1 two-overtime tie. That tie is the only blemish on #6 NJCAA ranked Butler's KJCCC record. In the home portion of the series, the Red Ravens hosted #6 Butler and hoped to add a second blemish to the Grizzlies' record. However, it was not to be as the Red Ravens fell to the Grizzlies 6-1. With the loss, Coffeyville's overall record falls to 10-4-1 including a 6-3-1 record in KJCCC matchups. The 6-3-1 KJCCC record has the Ravens in second place in the five-team KJCCC east.
First-half scoring set the tone in this one. Butler jumped on the board first netting a header at the 33:20 mark of the first half to take an early 1-0 lead. Just five minutes later, the Grizzlies again scored on a header close to the goal to push ahead 2-0 over the Ravens. At the 21:40 mark of the first half, Coffeyville was able to net one of their own into Butler's goal as the Ravens closed the gap to 2-1. Butler's offense was aggressive for the remainder of the first half and scored two more goals to take a 4-1 lead into halftime.
Coffeyville tried pushing the pace some in the second half and had a few chances, but nothing was able to materialize and the Grizzlies netted two second-half goals to take the 6-1 victory.
The Red Ravens will regroup and return to action this coming Saturday, Oct 15th with a road match against the Cowley Tigers. Kick-off at Ark City Kansas is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
