Women's Soccer Lose at Johnson 4-2

Overland Park, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer team traveled to Johnson County and were not able to secure their first KJCCC east win of the year, falling to the Cavaliers of Johnson County Community College 4-2.  With the loss, the Red Raven's overall record falls to 0-2 on the year.

It was a windy night under the lights with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Coffeyville started the game off strong by scoring just three minutes after kickoff. Sophomore Louise Atkinson found space and picked up the ball in the middle of the field. Her first shot hit the post, but Atkinson showed great determination by getting on the end of her own rebound and slotting the ball into the back of the net. After their goal, Coffeyville continued to put pressure on the Johnson County backline for the next 15 minutes. Johnson defended well and with 20 minutes left in the first half, they found an equalizer off of their corner kick. Johnson was able to use their momentum to net another goal before the end of the first half to make it 2-1 Johnson County heading into halftime.

The Red Ravens went into halftime and regrouped and then came into the second half fired up which enabled them to score an equalizing goal just 5 minutes into the second half. Louise Atkinson was on the ball and drove it down towards Johnson County's goal. Sophomore Nicole Schuck-Sparks made a great run behind the defense down the flank and Atkinson found her with a superb through ball. Johnson County's keeper sprinted out of her goal to intercept the pass but Sparks got there right before her to place the ball into the back of the net. Momentum went right back to Coffeyville and the lady ravens continued to look for the go-ahead goal.

After Johnson County scored again to make it 3-2, they kept on testing the Coffeyville defense and were able to net another goal past the lady ravens to make the score 4-2. In the last 20 minutes, Coffeyville was persistent with their efforts to get a goal back, but Johnson County kept the lady ravens from scoring. The game ended with a final score of 4-2 for Johnson County.

Coffeyville will be looking to bounce back on Wednesday, April 7 when they host Neosho County CC at 5 p.m. This game will be especially important for the sophomores of Coffeyville as they will be celebrating their sophomore night.
