Women's Soccer wins opening round of KJCCC

Coming into the game, head coach Jerrid Schicke and his coaching staff had prepared his team to be in top form as they took on Hutchinson Community College in the opening round of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference playoffs.

The girls had not played the Blue Dragons in the regular season, so the women relied heavily on the scouting report Schicke provided; and they excuted that to perfection.  From the start, the Red Ravens would be on the offensive attack.

Andrea Compper would get things going for the Red Ravens.  Compper beat two Blue Dragon defenders then teamed with Vanessa Reynoso on a 2 versus 1 buildup.  Reynoso would split the Blue Dragons back line with an outstanding pass to Gabriela Rodrigues who promptly put the ball in the goal to put the Red Ravens up 1-0.

Compper would continue to be the focus for the Blue Dragons; however, she was able to out play the defenders as she was able to get two shots on goal off.  Compper was able to beat the goalie each time, but was unable to punch the ball through as she nailed the goal frame each time.

All this action...and the women were only in the first half!

In the second half, the Blue Dragons continued to fight and claw to get back into the game.  However, the Red Ravens would go up 2-0 on a left footed crossby Tayler Womochill to Angie Apodoca.  Apodoca cleared the defender and punch the ball pass the Blue Dragon goalkeeper to go up 2-0 in the 62nd minute.

Being down 2-0 late, the Blue Dragons wouldn't give up.  As they pushed the ball to the Red Ravens side, the Blue Dragons were able to capitalize on defensive miscue to and score their first and only goal of the night.

Red Ravens goalkeeper Brylee Brasher played an extraordinary game inside the net.  With the Blue Dragons pushing hard to tie the game up, Brasher and the Red Raven defenders were able to keep the score 2-1 for the remaining 25 minutes.  Brasher would go eight for nine in save attempts for the night.  With Brasher controlling the tempo and coming up with amazing save after amazing save, the Red Ravens had all the confidence in mainting the lead.

The women will next compete on November 2nd in the Final 4 in Topeka, Kansas.
