Coffeyville, Kan. - With a balanced attack, the Coffeyville Community College Women's Basketball Team defeated the Tigers of Cowley College 82-68. The win pushes the Ravens overall record to 8-2 (winners of five in a row) including a KJCCC conference mark of 7-2. The 7-2 conference mark currently has the Ravens in second in the seven-team KJCCC East Division behind 11-0 Butler.
Coffeyville jumped out early on Cowley, outscoring the Tigers 22-14 in the first quarter. After a tight second quarter, the Ravens held a 36-27 lead at halftime. The Red Ravens came out strong in the third quarter scoring 25 points to extend the lead out to 61-45 at the end of the third quarter. Coffeyville pushed through the fourth quarter to end with the 82-68 victory.
The difference in the game was the hot shooting of the Ravens. The Ravens for the game shot 33/67 (49%) while Cowley shot a measly 23/80 (28%). The rebounds were close with Coffeyville holding a slim 49-48 advantage. The Ravens were a little sloppy with the ball managing 28 turnovers to Cowley's 19.
With five Raven players reaching double-digit points, the Ravens had a balanced offensive attack. Leading the way for the Ravens was freshman Paige Scott. Scott had a stat-filled night going 4/10 from the three-point line for a total of 18 points along with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Sophomore Faith Simpson had her usual stellar game just missing the double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Freshman Martina Aeschliman also pitched in 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Freshman Amiya Josey had 11 points along with 5 rebounds and freshman Nakia Cullom rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
The Red Raven Women will return to action on Wednesday, March 10th with a short road game up the highway to Independence Kansas. Tipoff for the Ravens and Pirates is set for 5:00 p.m.
