Red Ravens Come Up Short vs Tigers

The Red Ravens women's basketball (15-15; 13-13 conference) concluded their regular season with a loss to Cowley Tigers 66-56.

The women fought hard against the tough Tiger team as head coach Stephen Harrel relied on his top six players to contain the high shooting team from Arkansas City.

The Tigers did a great job in containing the hot hand of sophomore Lucy Burke.  On the night, Burke scored 11 points (keeping her consecutive double digit streak alive), but the Tigers ran her off the three point line (only two attempts on the game).  With the defense forcing Burke off the line, Harrel had to draw up another way to force the issue with his scorer.  Harrel called a timeout and devised a series of plays that opened the paint for his top scorers to get in and repeatedly score.

Through a series of screens and cuts, Harrel opened up the paint for Burke to receive dump off passes from sophomore Sky Jasper (five assists) and Jasper to receive the same from sophomore Alexis Wooden (five assists).  Wooden also added seven rebounds and eight points to her night.

The adjustments allowed Jasper to have team high in points at 16, while opening scoring from sophomore guard MaKayla Tanksley (11 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds).

Defense was also on a high note for the Red Ravens.  In total, the Red Ravens pulled down 31 rebounds and forced 16 turnovers.  Burke led the team with six steals while Jasper added another two.

However, the Red Ravens were unable to stop Cowley's Kaitlyn Potter.  Potter would channel her inner Steph Curry and went 6/14 from the three point line.  Often, the shots were heavily contested or from deep behind the line as time expired on the shot clock.  Potter led all scorers with 22 points.

The Red Ravens host the Barton Cougars on Thursday March 1st at 7:00pm.
