In their first action of 2018, and coming off a four game winning streak, the Red Ravens women's basketball team hosted the Garden City Broncbusters.  

The Red Ravens appeared to not miss a step from the break as they jumped to an early lead going on a 12-2 opening run.  From their early efforts, the forecast showed that it would be a run away victory for the women. "The Limit" Sky Jasper, had the Red Ravens first 10 points of the game.  The sophomore looked sharp for the Red Ravens.

However, the Broncbusters would withstand the early run and cut the lead to 20-15 at the end of the first quarter.

After the first quarter, you could see the frustration mounting on head coach Stephen Harrel's face.  His team was very willing to share the ball, but turned passive as they were reluctant to take a shot.  In the first half, the Red Ravens had only attempted 27 shots; going 12/27.  Compared to the Broncbuster's 13/30.  Harrel pointed out several times where his players passed up on uncontested shots.

Sophomore Lucy Burke continued her hot shooting as she shot 3/4 in first half with all three shots coming from behind the arc.  Burke would ultimately go 5/10 on the game with 17 points and 4 rebounds.

While the Red Ravens were passing up open shots, they were also not capitalizing on their free throws and rebounds.  On the night, they shot 11/19 and pulled down 31 rebounds.  

Had the Red Ravens made four more free throws and had one or two more players make one more basket, the Red Ravens would have come away with a victory.

Post play was also a key for the Broncbusters as they out scored the Red Ravens 20 to 10 in the paint.

In the coming days, Coach Harrel and his assistant, Anita Walker, will regroup their players and prepare for their next conference opponent--at Butler Community College on January 6th.
