The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven softball team earned their first Kansas Jayhawk Community Conference victory of the year by splitting a home double header with the Allen County Red Devils. The Red Ravens lost the first game 5-8 and bounced back to win the second game 10-2.
The split moves the Red Ravens overall record to 9-17 and pushes their KJCCC record to 1-3.
The first game saw the Red Devils jump our early racing to a 5-0 lead on the Red Ravens. Coffeyville did score late to make a game of it, but Allen County got the 8-5, seven inning victory.
At the plate, the Red Ravens went 9 for 29 with freshmen infielder Jennifer Griffitt and sophomore outfielder Breanna Bill each getting 2 hits in the game along with sophomore catcher Rianne Bunnell and freshmen outfielder Jessica Holt both hitting doubles.
Red Raven sophomore Jaycee Forth (4-7) was on the mound for the Red Ravens, she went the full 7 innings allowing 7 earned on 9 hits with one strikeout.
Game #2 saw the Red Ravens flip the script from game #1 with Coffeyville being the team that jumped out to the early lead. The Red Ravens scored 3 in the first to take a quick 3-0 lead and then poured it on over the last 3 innings of the game scoring an additional 7 to take the 10-2, six inning victory.
Coffeyville's Breanna Bill had an excellent game at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double and a homerun. Freshmen outfielder Taylor Knoche, freshmen infielder Hailey McDaniel, and freshmen pitcher Alyssa Dawson also had good games each batting 2 for 4 in the game with McDaniel adding a homerun and Dawson adding a double.
Alyssa Dawson (4-8) went the distance on the mound for Coffeyville, going 6 innings while allowing 2 earned on 9 hits and 5 strikeouts.
The Red Ravens return to action on Friday, March 17th with a road trip to Concordia Kansas to play a double header against the Cloud County Thunderbirds. Game times are set for 2:00 and 4:00 pm.
