Biography:

 

Robert Wood a native of Blackwell, Oklahoma, will begin his 23rd year of coaching.  He will start his 17th year here at Coffeyville and will begin his 5th year as the Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach.  In the 16 years since coming to Coffeyville, Coach Wood has helped build the Red Ravens into one of the most recognized and respected Junior College throws programs in the country.

 

In 2012 Wood was named NJCAA Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year and NJCAA Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year.  During the 2014-2015 season, he coached former Red Raven Tristan Whitehall to five Barbados National Senior Records.  Wood also coached former Red Raven Johnnie Jackson to the NJCAA National Record in the Weight Throw; Jackson became the first Junior College male thrower to break the 20m barrier in the Weight Throw.  Wood Coached Former Red Raven Dequan Lovell to two Barbados National Records in the Weight and Hammer.  He also coached former Red Raven Miles Marhofer to the NJCAA National Record in the Weight and became the 2nd Red Raven to break the 20m barrier.  Former Raven Mustafa Fall holds four Fiji National Records in Indoor Shot, Outdoor Shot, Weight and Discus.  His Discus throw broke a record that had been held for over 60 years.  Building on that success Fall under Wood’s guidance won the 2019 Pacific Games Gold medal in the Shotput competing for Fiji.  Mustafa Fall became the first Red Raven to break the 18m barrier in the Shot put while winning the 2020 NJCAA National Indoor Championship in the Shot Put.

 

On the female side, Wood coached former Red Raven Tayla Greene to the NJCAA Hammer Throw National and Meet record.  Former Red Raven Nu'uausala Tuilefano won a Silver Medal in the Shot Put at the 2019 and two Golds in the 2023 Pacific Games.

 

In his 22 years, Wood has had 78 of his former athletes have signed Division I or II Scholarships.  Coach Wood holds Level I Coaching Certification (general) as well as Level II Coaching Certifications in both throws and jumps through the United States Track and Field Association and is a member of the National Throws Coaches Association.
