Red Ravens Jump to the Top

The Red Ravens men's and women's track and field programs have gotten off to a hot start and are gaining national recognition (results below).  Craig Perry, head track and field coach, and his staff have competed in three very strong competitions, but his program has held their own and exceeded many expectations.

"The first meet we looked nervous or anxious," said Perry. "But this last two meets we look like we belonged; looked like we were settled in."

Settled in is a perfect way to explain his team as the top three men's triple jump athletes and two of the top ten women triple jumpers in the nation belong to the Red Ravens.

Men's triple jump:
#1 Dodley Thermitus
#2 Brian Pittman
#3 Darius Clark

Women's triple jump:
#2  Katrina Small
#6 Keke

On the throws events, the Red Ravens have had a lot of success early on.  Freshman Miles Marhofer threw the weight 17.48 meters, falling .50 meters from the school record.

"It was a massive throw.  He [Marhofer] did really well and we expect him to continue to develop," said throwers coach Robert Wood.

Sophomore Jermaine Holt has also performed well in the 400m and 600m events.  Currently, Holt is #1 in NJCAA in the 400m.

"His performance has been very impressive," said Perry.

Starting out the Red Ravens have had a challenging schedule, but they have faced the challenge and look to continue to make headlines as they continue through their schedule.

The Red Ravens next meet is January 27 at the Pittsburg State Invite.
