
Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team suffered their first loss of the season in a 95-90 overtime defeat at the hands of the Golden Norsemen of NEO. With the loss, the Red Ravens' early season overall record moves to 3-1.
The game started on a good note for the Red Ravens as they jumped out to an early 22-10 lead roughly twelve minutes into the first half. NEO was able to close somewhat over the remainder of the first half, however, Coffeyville still managed a 48-40 halftime lead.
The start of the second half again saw the Ravens start quickly with Coffeyville scoring twelve points in the first five minutes to take a 60-48 lead at the fifteen-minute mark. With the Ravens leading 78-70 at the 6:54 mark of the second half the tide started to turn for Coffeyville and their offense went noticeably cold. Over a nine and a half-minute span to finish the game and into overtime, the Red Ravens were outscored 17-5 by NEO which allowed the Norsemen the 95-90 victory.
Statistically, Coffeyville shot 43% for the game to NEO's 39%, while NEO had 48 rebounds to Coffeyville's 39. The Ravens shot a perfect 13-13 from the free-throw line.
Game leaders for Coffeyville included freshman guard Brian Griffith with 22 points, and sophomore Cris Carroll with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Raven sophomore Izek Jackson had an 11-point 10-rebound double-double while freshman Jayven Cofer had 11 points to go along with 7 assists.
Coffeyville won't have to wait too long for a rematch as the Ravens will travel to Miami Oklahoma for the "Away" portion of the home and away series with the Norsemen on Wednesday, November 15th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
