
Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team defeated the Saints of Seward County 67-45 in the first round of the 2022 Region VI Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. With the victory, the Red Raven's overall record improves to 17-12 on the season.
The first-round matchup opened slowly with the Red Ravens holding a close 27-24 halftime lead over the Seward Saints in the low-scoring first half. Coffeyville in the first half did not shoot the ball well, only shooting 34% overall in the half including a low 30% (3/10) from behind the 3-point line.
In the second half, Coffeyville came alive surging early in the half on a 17-0 run to put some distance between the #5 seeded Ravens and the #12 seeded Saints. After the early second-half run by the Ravens, Coffeyville maintained a comfortable 15-20 point lead for the remainder of the contest in posting the 67-45 victory.
Leaders for Coffeyville in the game included Dayshawn Wiley with 14 points and 6 rebounds, Love Bettis with 14 points, and Blaise Keita who posted a big 13 point/21 rebound double-double.
Coffeyville moves into the second round of the Region VI Championship where the #5 seeded Red Ravens (17-12) will travel to the #4 seeded Broncbusters of Garden City (21-9). Coffeyville and Garden City split their regular-season meetings this year with Coffeyville winning in overtime on November 20th at Garden City 106-104 and losing to the Broncbusters 78-74 on January 19th in Nellis Hall.
The second-round Region VI Tournament matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, March 1st in Garden City. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
