
The #8 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Men's Basketball team traveled to #14 ranked Hutchinson and thoroughly defeated the Blue Dragons 88-68. The victory moves the Red Ravens early-season record to 3-0 and 1-0 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play. Dating back to last year the Ravens are on a current 12 game win streak, which includes three victories in last year's Region VI tournament.
The Red Ravens jumped out early in the game building a 25-16 lead halfway through the first half. Coffeyville settled into halftime with a 42-36 lead. The Blue Dragons did pull within a point (56-55) with eleven minutes to go in the second half, but the Ravens finished the game on a torrid 32-13 run to earn the 88-68 victory.
Long-range shooting and ball control was the difference in the game for the Red Ravens. For the game, Coffeyville shot 42% (11-26) from the 3-pt line compared to Hutchinson's 27% (3-11). Coffeyville sophomore Tylor Perry was extremely hot from behind the arc shooting 5-6 from three. As far as ball control, Coffeyville had a season-low 8 turnovers in the game compared to 19 from Hutchinson. The Red Raven's quick hands on defense led to 10 steals for the Ravens compared to only 3 for the Blue Dragons.
Filling out the boxscore, Coffeyville had four players in double figures on the night including;
Sophomore Larry White with 18 points (5-9 shooting) and 5 rebounds and 4 steals
Sophomore Tylor Perry with 16 points (5-9 shooting overall, 5-6 from 3) and 3 rebounds and 3 assists
Red Shirt Freshman Markeith Browning with 13 points (5-11 shooting) and 2 rebounds and 4 assists
Freshman Blaise Keita with 10 points (3-7 shooting) and 8 rebounds
The #8 NJCAA ranked Ravens return to action this Saturday, January 30th with a home 4:00 p.m. tip-off against the Pratt Beavers.
