On a night without head coach Jay Herkelman on the sideline, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's basketball team defeated the Cloud County Thunderbirds 87-63. The victory pushes the Red Ravens overall record to 14-6 and 6-4 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play. The 6-4 KJCCC record currently has Coffeyville fifth in the seven-team eastern section of the KJCCC.
Red Raven assistant coach Kyle Campbell was roaming the sidelines for Coffeyville in tonight's game in response to Coach Herkelman's serving a one-game KJCCC suspension for receiving two T's in the Ravens game on Monday night against Cowley County.
As a team, the Red Ravens responded well to Coach Campbell scoring 87 points overall and 50 points in the second half in the 87-63 win over the Thunderbirds. Coffeyville shot extremely well in the second half going 21/34 (61%). Overall for the game, the Ravens shot 34/68 (50%).
Top performers for the Ravens included sophomore Manny Crump with 25 points, sophomore Tony Hutson with 15 points and sophomore Meikkel Murray with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Ravens will hit the road next with a matchup against the Allen County Red Devils. The game is scheduled for Saturday, January 18th in Iola Kansas with a tip-off set for 4:00 pm.
