#5 Red Ravens Soar Past Thunderbirds; Herkelman Ties Francis Flax

The 2018-19 season has been a special one so far for the Coffeyville Red Ravens and Head Coach Jay Herkelman. Wednesday night in Concordia, KS sweetened it a little more for the 24 year veteran Head Coach.

Coffeyville jumped out to an early lead hitting 5 of its first 6 shots and quickly made the score 12-3 in their favor. The score going into halftime would be 55-39. However, Cloud County wouldn't make it easy on the Ravens Wednesday night and made Coffeyville earn everything they got.

After some poor shooting and costly turnovers the 14 point lead would get down to 2 points with 10:35 remaining with a score of 66-64. Heading into the media timeout the veteran coach would get his team refocused and they would outscore the Thunderbirds 33-21 the final 10 minutes of play. The final score of the contest would be 99-85.

Marvin Johnson would lead all scorers with 26 points on the night and Miekkel Murray would do the hard work in the point and led all rebounders with 18 boards.

The win moves Coffeyville to 18-2 overall on the season and 9-1 in the KJCCC Eastern Conference. The win moves Ravens Head Coach Jay Herkleman a tie with Region VI all-time record for wins of 621 also held by Francis Flax of Brown Mackie.

The Red Ravens take on the Allen County Red Devils Saturday January 19th where Coach Jay Herkelman will get his first opportunity to take sole possession of the all-time wins record Region VI. Herkelman is already the all-time winningest coach in KJCCC history.
