Red Ravens Take Thunder From T-Birds

The Red Ravens stretched their winning streak to six games after their 76-50 victory over Cloud County.

In the early going, the Red Ravens found themselves in a 10-0 hole and had to find a way to turn the tide.  At the 16 minute mark, the Red Ravens would go on a 17-6 run that led to a 39-27 first half lead.

The men were led by freshman Marvin Johnson who had 21 points on the game.  The game marked two straight games Johnson found himself in double digits.  The T-Birds didn't have an answer for the talented freshman as he also recorded six rebounds, three assists, one steal, and a block on the game.

Johnson wasn't the only freshman with a big game for Jay Herkelman's team, as Casey Benton recorded 16 points with two assists.

"He's been the most consistent player for the team this year," Herkelman said in an earlier interview regarding Benton.

Benton continued with his consistency as the game marked his fourth game in double digits in his last five games.

Coming off his buzzer beating shot, sophomore Travis Washington once again proved that he is one of the top guards in the KJCCC.  Washington posted 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  On the year Washington has totaled 72 assists and 34 steals, while also showing his ability to crash the boards with 63 rebounds.  So, while he had a solid game, his numbers for the game are what Red Raven follwers have come to expect from the talented guard.

Freshman Keon Queen also had a solid night coming off the bench.  Queen added six points and seven rebounds to the teams stat line.

The Red Ravens also found themselves shooting 71.4% from the free throw line.  Benton went a perfect 5/5 while Johnson and Washington had impressive nights at the line going 5/6 and 4/7 respectively.

The Red Ravens look to keep their momentum going as they face Pratt Community College on Saturday in Nellis Hall at 4:00pm.
