Red Ravens Trip Against Trojans

It was an uncharacteristic game for the Red Ravens.  The men traveled to Colby, Kansas to take on conference opponent Colby Trojans.

Head coach Jay Herkelman preaches ball control, defense, and rebounds.  The Red Ravens did not follow Herkelman's game plan.  On the game, the men had 31 turnovers compared to Colby's 19.  Any time you cough up the ball 12 more times than your opponent, while only out rebounding them by two (35 Red Ravens 33 Trojans), you do not put yourself in a position to win ball games.

The Red Ravens did have a few bright spots on the game.  Travis Washington "The President" busted through with 21 points, 1 steal, 1 block, and 4 rebounds.  The game snapped a four game stretch where The President scored under 20 points.  On the year, he is averaging 15.2 points per game, but more importantly, The President is averaging 3.1 assists per game with 3.1 rebounds per game.

Keeping pace with Washington is freshman Marvin Johnson.  Johnson also had a solid game with 21 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist, and 1 steal.  Johnson has caught attention of many coaches around the conference as a serious threat not only within the conference, but nationally.  Johnson is averaging 12.6 points, 1.1 blocks, 2.1 steals, 3,7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

The loss snaps a four game winning streak and sets the Red Raven's at 11-2 on the year and 7-2 in conference.

The team will have plenty of time to think about their mistakes and correct them.  Their next game is January 3, 2018 against conference opponent Garden City at Nellis Hall at 7:30pm.
