Ravens Score on Last Play of Game to Defeat Butler 29-28

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team flipped the script on the Butler Grizzlies, and in this game, it was the Red Ravens scoring at the end of the game to secure the 29-28 Red Raven victory.  In this unique spring football season, the Red Ravens' overall record moves to 3-1.  Today's victory marks just the third victory over Butler since 1998.

On a windy afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium, Coffeyville had outplayed the Grizzlies in this one.  In the game, Coffeyville put up 376 yards of total offense to Butler's 194.  However, costly turnovers had the Red Ravens down 28-23 in the fourth quarter and looking up towards another disappointing loss versus Butler.

Butler had scored their last touchdown off of an inopportune fumble by Coffeyville that had the Grizzlies set up at their own 40-yard line down 23-21 to the Ravens.  Butler pushed ahead of Coffeyville with a rushing touchdown at the 1:15 mark of the fourth to pull ahead of Coffeyville 28-23.

After the Butler kickoff, Coffeyville had the ball at their own 25-yard line with 1:15 left on the clock.  A Butler personal foul penalty combined with three straight passes from Raven quarterback Kolbe Langhi had Coffeyville down to the Butler 18 yard line with 44 seconds remaining.  The Ravens had some life left in them.

A Langhi 11-yard rush combined with a Cortney Jackson 6-yard rush had the ball down to the Grizzly 1 yard line.  After a spiked ball to stall the clock for Coffeyville, the Ravens had the ball second and goal at the 1-yard line with 19 seconds remaining.  The Ravens lined up and handed the ball off to running back Star Thomas who was stuffed by the grizzlies for a 1-yard loss.  However, the Ravens quickly reset at the line of scrimmage and instead of spiking the ball, they handed it off to Star Thomas again who rushed off the left side for the go-ahead touchdown with no time remaining on the clock.  Coffeyville did have to try an extra point which they knelt on.  Coffeyville got the one-point victory, 29-28.

Coffeyville's freshman running back Star Thomas was the feature back of the day rushing for 154 yards on 24 carries along with four rushing touchdowns.  Redshirt freshman quarterback Kolbe Langhi was 16-25 through the air for 173 yards and two interceptions.

Defensively, freshman linebacker Reese Collier was all over the field for the Ravens recording 12 total tackles on the afternoon.

Next up for Coffeyville will be a home game scheduled for Sunday, May 2nd against Arkansas Baptist.  Kickoff Sunday afternoon is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
