Red Raven Football Runs Over the Conquistadors in 14-3 win, Earn first KJCCC Win

On a night that saw a 30 minute lightening delay in the fourth quarter, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven football team ran the ball against the Dodge City Conquistadors to pick up their first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference win of the year in a 14-3 victory.  The victory moved the Red Raven's 2019 overall record to 2-5 and 1-3 in the KJCCC conference.

The night belonged to the Red Raven running backs.  Offensively for the game, the Red Ravens only had 207 yards of total offense.  However, the Red Raven rushing attack was on point gaining 152 yards of that 207.

Coffeyville's sophomore running back Marco Lee started off the scoring, running left and breaking back right for a 66 yard touchdown run late in the first quarter.  The PAT was good by Coffeyville's Seren Hughes Ford and the Red Ravens had a 7-0 lead at the 2:55 mark of the first quarter.

Dodge City while trying to answer in the second quarter, moved the ball down the field, gaining a first and goal at the Red Raven 6 yard line.  It was at this point that the Coffeyville defense stiffened and held the Conquistadors to a field goal that closed the score to 7-3 at the 4:50 mark of the second quarter.

Coffeyville's second score came on a beautiful 5 yard touchdown pass to the back corner of the endzone from sophomore quarterback Cam Smith to sophomore receiver Gregory Jean.  The PAT was again good and the Red Ravens had a 14-3 lead at the 1:32 mark of the second quarter.

The remainder of the game saw the Conquistadors move the ball between the 20 yard lines, however each time they moved inside the 20, Coffeyville's defense was able to step up and make a play to keep them out of the end zone.

Statistically, Coffeyville's defense had their best game of the year allowing Dodge City to just 3 points and a total yardage of 289 yards.  Coffeyville's sophomore linebacker Jaquan Beaver excelled with 11 tackles (9 solo and 4 ast).

The Red Ravens will take their current two game win streak and will travel to Hutchinson Kansas next saturday (Oct 12th) to play the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson Community College.  Game time is set for noon in Hutchinson.
