Key Plays Hobble Raven Football in Home Loss to Butler

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football team may have played their best game of the season, but were not able to overcome a few crucial plays in a home loss to the Butler Grizzlies, 33-13.

The loss moves the Red Raven's overall record to 0-4 and 0-2 in the KJCCC conference.

In a night of big plays, the Red Ravens could not produce enough for themselves and gave up too many to the Grizzlies.  Butler's first came at 10:51 of the first quarter when Butler running back Brock Sturges ripped off a 54 yard touchdown run to start off the scoring.  The PAT was missed and the Grizzlies held a 6-0 score.  Butler managed to come right back with another long run by Brock Sturges of 68 yards to end the 1st quarter.  The PAT was good and Butler held a 13-0 lead.

The Red Ravens were able to answer with a 8 play 58 yard drive topped off by a 2 yard Kyshaun Byran touchdown run to pull Coffeyville to within 13-6 on the scoreboard at the first of the second quarter.

After halftime, Coffeyville was able to strike early in the third quarter with a 26 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Edwin Kleinpeter Jr to Isaiah Taylor, the PAT was good and the Red Ravens had tied the game at 13 each.

From that point forward, Coffeyville could not gain any traction.  The Red Raven defense coughed up 2 long touchdowns (a 70 yard punt return touchdown by grizzly return man JaQuaz Durham and a 30 yard touchdown run by Adarius Thomas).  Sandwiched in between those two long scores was a long 9 play 64 yard drive capped off by a 1 yard touchdown run by the Grizzlies Thomas.

The Red Ravens offensivley were led by sophomore running back Marco Lee who was able to manage 78 yards on 13 carries.  The passing game for the Red Ravens was topped by sophomore quarterbacks Aubrey Williams and Edwin Kleinpeter Jr who were both 9 of 18 with 1 interception.  Williams threw for 62 yards while Kleinpeter threw for 86 yards and a touchdown.  Coffeyville's wide receivers were led by freshmen Isaiah Taylor with 4 catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Next up on the schedule for Coffeyville will be a home date with the Scotties of Highland set for September 21st at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.  Kick off is set for 7:00 pm.
