The Red Raven football team took on the 2nd ranked team in the country, the Broncbusters of Garden City. CCC started the game off kicking and quickly getting a 3 and out on GCCCs first possession. CCC offense came out and also became a victim of good defense and is forced to punt after 3 downs. The Ravens defense came out hot, stopping a very good running offense on 3 downs. Ravens offense came out for their third series and seemed to make the proper adjustments and learn from their mistakes and on the first play of the drive quarterback Carson Proctor connects with receiver Kendric Jones on a quick crossing route and Jones uses his speed to soar into the end zone for an explosive 95 yard TD. The PAT was good and the Raven's go up 7-0. The Broncbusters fight back though with great running on their next drive and eventually get to the endzone and tie the game at 7 each. A string of penalties for the Ravens put them deep in their own territory and were sacked in their own endzone for a safety putting GCCC up 9-7. The Ravens free kick after the safety and GCCC rattles off a 45 yard run to end the first quarter.
The Broncbusters start the second quarter threatening to score. They score on a 2 yard run and get the PAT going up 16-7. The Ravens show signs of life on their next drive but eventually are forced to punt. Garden City drove the field but Markquese Bell comes up with a huge sack on 3rd down forcing Garden to punt. CCC returns the punt deep ino Broncbuster territory but are intercepted on the first play of the drive. The Ravens defense stands stout getting another big 3rd down stop and forces Garden to punt yet again. On the punt the returner fumbles and garden recovers and end up scoring going up 23-7. CCC is forced to punt on their next drive. With the Broncbusters knocking on the door, the ravens make a huge 3rd down stop forcing Garden to attempt a FG. The Ravens crash the line and get a wing on the ball and get the block, Linebacker James Lewis picks up the ball and scampers in for the touchdown. The Ravens go for 2 and a great one handed catch near the end zone leads to the two point conversion. The Ravens still trail, 23-15. Garden gets the ball back and takes a knee to end the half. The Ravens trailed the Broncbusters 23-15 at the half.
CCC received the second half kickoff and promptly goes 3 and out. GCCC, with a strong running game, gets the first score of the second half. Garden City took the lead, 30-15. CCC gets stopped again on offense but the defense has their back and gets another stop on 3rd down the Broncbusters go with the fake field goal and get the first down. The Broncbusters go on to score and extend their lead 37-15. CCC is forced to punt again on their next possession.
To start the 4th, Garden gets in the end zone but get called for a hold on the offensive line and the score is called back. GCCC, despite the setback, eventually finds the end zone and goes up 44-15. The Raven offense, struggling in the second half, gets stopped again on 3 downs. Again Garden City marches down the field and scores but once again is called back on a hold. The Raven defense made the Broncbusters pay this time and stopped them on 4th down. CCC drives but was met with a 4th down and 15 and went for it. The Ravens QB rolled out of the pocket but is met by a gaggle of Broncbusters and fumbles. Garden recovered the fumble and goes the length of the field to score extending their lead to 51-15. CCC gets the ball back but there isn't enough time on the clock and time runs out. CCC lost 51-15 and now sits at 3-6 on the season.
The Red Ravens will be back in action again on the road, Saturday, November 3rd against the Panthers of Ellsworth.
