Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball Team found themselves down early in a 23-8 defeat at the hands of the Mavericks of North Oklahoma - Tonkawa. With the loss, the Red Ravens' overall 2023 record moves to 5-4 on the season.
The top of the first inning proved to be a rough one for Coffeyville as the Mavericks scored 9 runs to open the game. This set the tone for the rest of the game as the Red Ravens were playing catch-up the rest of the day. After scoring another run in the second and two more in the top of the third, NOC-Tonkawa had a 12-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the third, the Red Ravens seemed to come to life scoring 8 runs over the next four innings on their way to the 23-8 defeat.
The top batters for Coffeyville on the day were sophomore Tyler Massey, freshman Carson Schrack, sophomore Mason Holton, and freshman Tate Moody who all had two hits a piece. Red Raven sophomore catcher Drake Unrein along with shortstop Mason Holton each had a home run in the game for Coffeyville.
Coffeyville used a total of 8 pitchers on the day in the 9-inning game.
The Red Ravens will return to action this weekend with a four-game set against Hesston. Coffeyville will travel to Hesston on Saturday, Feb 25th for a doubleheader and will then return to Coffeyville on Sunday, February 26th for an afternoon doubleheader against Hesston at Walter Johnson Park. Game times are set for 1:00p/4:00p on both days.
