Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Baseball Team opened their 2023 season with a 4-game sweep over the weekend against the Arkansas State University - Mountain Home Trailblazers. Coffeyville won the two games on Saturday, 20-3 and 8-4. On Sunday, the Ravens won 11-10 and 27-8. With the weekend victories, the Red Ravens open the season with a 4-0 overall record.
Game #1 - Red Ravens 20 Trailblazers 3
Coffeyville jumped out early scoring 7 in the first inning on their way to the 20-3 victory. Red Raven freshman infielder Carson Schrack opened his season on fire as he hit for the cycle while driving in 5 in his first game as a Red Raven. Raven sophomore Mason Holton also hit a home run in the game.
Red Raven freshman right-hander Ricky Hernandez pitched four innings to collect the win. Hernandez allowed 3 hits and 3 earned while striking out 5 and walking 0.
Game #2 - Red Ravens 8 Trailblazers 4
Coffeyville found themselves down 4-1 after two innings to the Trailblazers but then scored 3 in the third, 2 in the fourth, and 2 in the fifth to earn the 8-4 victory. Carson Schrack followed up his first game cycle by hitting a single and a double while driving in another two.
Red Raven freshman right-hander Ryan Leiker came in in relief and pitched four strong to earn the win. Leiker allowed no runs on 2 hits while striking out 2.
Game #3 - Red Ravens 11 Trailblazers 10
Coffeyville had their first big comeback of the year as they found themselves down 9-1 after four innings. The Red Ravens went on to score 2 in the fifth and 5 in the sixth along with the last 3 in dramatic walk-off fashion in the seventh to earn the 11-10 victory.
Coffeyville's freshman designated hitter Tate Moody went 3 for 4 in the game while sophomore shortstop Mason Holton went 2 for 4 with a home run. Coffeyville used six pitchers in the game to keep the Trailblazers in check.
Game #4 - Red Ravens 27 Trailblazers 8
Coffeyville scores 7 runs in the second and 14 in the third to blow this one open on their way to the 27-8 victory. Mason Holton had 3 hits and 4 RBIs in the game while six other Ravens each had 2 hits.
Sophomore righty Aaron Geisler earned the victory while pitching 3 innings and allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and striking out 4.
