
The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven men's baseball team competed at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond Oklahoma over the weekend. The Ravens went 1-2 in the three games they competed in. With five games into their season, the Ravens are currently 1-4 overall.
Coffeyville opened up the weekend at UCO with a Saturday morning (Feb 15th, 11:00 am) game against Northern Oklahoma-Enid. Coffeyville was on the losing side of a 12-2 score (8 innings) in the game. The Ravens gave up 12 runs on 7 hits and 4 errors. The Ravens managed 2 runs on 4 hits and 1 Northern Oklahoma error. Sophomore Easton Rindt had the Raven's lone RBI in the game with a double to center to score Edsael Torres.
The Ravens played two games on Sunday with the Ravens winning the first against Cloud County 9-3. The key to victory in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Ravens were able to score 5 runs to extend out to a 7-1 lead at the time before closing the game with the 9-3 victory.
The second game on Sunday came against Seminole State. In a tight pitcher's duel, the Ravens could not find enough offense and found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 score. Pitching for the Ravens was right-handed, redshirt freshman Frank Peterson. Peterson went 4 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. Raven sophomore relief pitcher Dempsey Battin combined with freshmen relievers Mac Cheney and Tayler Mahoney to pitch 3 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and no runs. Trey McClelland provided the offense, grounding into a fielder's choice to score redshirt freshman Jayden Kay in the bottom of the 1st inning.
The Ravens will return to action with a scheduled doubleheader in Baldwin City Kansas against Baker University JV. Games are scheduled for Thursday, February 20th at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
