Baseball Splits with Neosho County

Saturday at home Coffeyville capped off game one and two of the series and games three and four were played Sunday at Neosho. The conference dual did not disappoint as expected both teams came ready to play.

In game one and two Coffeyville looked to defend their home turf and it worked out well for them winning both games in walk off fashion. Game one was a close one Coffeyville trailed most of the game due to Neosho getting the offense going early scoring 2 in the first inning and two in the third inning. Sophomore pitcher Aaron Bechtel held them to that giving his offense a chance to get it going. Bechtel completed the game only allowing 3 hits and struck out 8. The Coffeyville offense clicked in the third inning finding a way to get on the board and they took off the there. In the fifth sixth and seventh coffeyville scored once in each of those innings, holding Neosho to none. In the bottom of the seventh Coffeyville would have a chance to seal the deal. Sophomores Jorge Ortiz and Zac Freeman would get the job done. Freeman scored from second off a ground ball up the middle from Ortiz that they tried to roll a double play on.

Coffeyville celebrated but the job was not complete yet, game 2 was still to be played. In game two Sophomore starting pitcher Jackson Blancarte was rolling through the Neosho offense getting out after out through 7 innings keeping them scoreless. In the eighth Neosho would get to him with a 2 run homerun. Blancarte would finish the game with 8.2 innings pitched, 9 strikeouts and only allowing one free base. Freshman pitcher Raymond Farrell came in the ninth to shut them down and that is exactly what he did keeping them scoreless. The Coffeyville offense was getting it done in this game just like the first ,never letting up trying to defend their home field. The offense would put up 10 hits total, multiple players with multi hit games. A big stand out was Luis Mendoza going 3-4 with a double. Coffeyville would find them self in the spot to walk it off again in the ninth with runners in scoring position. Sophomore Zac Freeman would be the winning run again for his team scoring on a pass ball by the catcher. Coffeyville went home happy with two walk off wins and looked to win two more at Neosho.

In game three Coffeyville on the road looked to bring the momentum with them, but struggled as a total team. They only had 4 hits in the game and wasn't able to get a run across. Sophomore Matt Hunt took the bump but didn't have his best stuff giving up 9 hits and 9 runs. The defense behind him had 1 error and a countless number of miss plays that led to eleven runs. Coffeyville lost 11-0 and looked to put game 3 in the past and compete in game 4.

Game 4 was much better the offense and defense clicked a lot better. Freshman Tucker Sparks started on the bump for the Ravens he went 6 innings with 9 hits and three strikeouts. Freshmen Chance Crowley and Raymond Farrell got the call from the pin for a combined 2 innings. The Raven offense battled back this game getting 7 runs off 10 hits. A couple players went yard for the Ravens Jorge Ortiz (1) and Noah Wallace (2). Trey McClelland had a multi hit game so did Luis Mendoza both with 2 hits. The Ravens responded extremely well from game 3 but it still wasn't enough to get the win losing 12-7 splitting the series 2-2.

The Ravens take on Baker University JV Thursday away and Saturday at home for their by week. GO RAVENS.
