Culotta Carries Offense in Day One Sweep

In game two, Martin handed the ball to freshman starter Aaron Bechtel.  Once again, a strong performance from the Red Ravens startng pitcher helped the team keep their offense going.  Bechtel would go 4 2/3 innings with six strikeouts, four hits, and one earned run.

With Bechtel controlling the Grizzlies bats, the offense was able to continue their hot start from game one.  Ortiz added another moon shot to his day to raise hit total to three.  Carroll also added to his strong day with another RBI and Freeman added three on the game to give him five on the day.

Leading off on the day for the Red Ravens was sophomore centerfielder Antonio Culotta.  On the day, Culotta went 6/7, five runs, two doubles, one triple, one home run, and one stolen base.  The leadoff hitter has had a hot start to his season which has lead to the Red Ravens offense being able to run smoothly.

The Grizzlies mounted a comeback as they scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead.  Martin turned the ball to sophomore Trevor Lunkwitz.  Lunkwitz (1-0, 0.00 era, 4k) would go two innings allowing no hits or runs while striking out four.  The strong performace was Lunkwitz first outing of the season.

The offense would come up big in the 8th inning as they scored four runs to take the lead for good.

Looking to close the game out with a statement, sophomore Garon Johnson (1-0, 2.2ip, 3.38 era, 4k) entered in the top of the ninth inning and would record a strikeout for all three outs of the inning.

The Red Ravens travel to El Dorado on Sunday to play the final two games of the four game series starting at 1:00 pm.
