Raven Baseball Drops 3 games to Hutchinson Blue Dragons Over Weekend

The Red Raven baseball team traveled to Hutchinson Kansas this past weekend to play a three game series against the Hutchinson Blue Dragons.  A double header was played on Saturday, February 18th with a single game on Sunday, February 19th.

In a tough weekend series, the Ravens lost all three games to the Blue Dragons.

The losses push the Ravens overall record to 4-6 on the year.

In game #1, the Ravens jumped out early capitalizing on a error by the Blue Dragons to score a run in the opening inning.  However, the Blue Dragons roared back scoring three in the bottom of the first and nine unanswered through the game to take the 9-1 victory over the Red Ravens.

Red Raven sophomore left hander Sam Carver got the loss going 3 and 2/3 innings giving up 4 runs on 10 hits and 3 strike outs.  Offensively, the Ravens were 5 for 25 at the plate with sophomore infielder Kyler Cook getting the Coffeyville's only extra base (double) of the game.

Game #2 again say the Ravens score in the top of first, with Raven sophomore Jose Carrasquillo hitting into a fielder's choice to drive in a run.  Nevertheless, Hutchinson again answered in the bottom of the first, scoring three on their way to the 14-6 victory over the Ravens.

Coffeyville's bats did come alive in the second game with Braden Kirkpatrick, Tywon Mackey Jr, Tyler Brown, Damon Jorgensen, and Garrett Francis all hitting doubles in the game.

Game #3 on Sunday turned into a thrilling competition that took 11 innings to decide.  Raven sophomore infielder Jose Carrasquillo opened the scoring for the Red Ravens in the top of the first with a solo home run to left field.  The Blue Dragons came back in the bottom of the second to tie the game 1-1.  

From that point going forward, both team's offenses decided to pick it up.  The Ravens scored 2 runs in the third inning, 1 in the fourth, 3 in the fifth and 3 in the sixth.  The Blue Dragons scored 1 in the third, 4 in the fourth, and 4 in the fifth.  After the dust settled, the teams were tied at 10-10 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The score remained tied at 10 over the next 4 innings and was broken when, in the bottom of the eleventh, Hutchinson was able to walk off with a clean single to third base that scored the go ahead run.  Hutchinson was able to secure the 11-10 victory over the Red Ravens in eleven innings.

Offensively, the Red Ravens were 11 for 42 at the plate in game #3 with RBI's by Ravens Antonio Culotta, Jose Carrasquillo, Hunter Kellgren, Damon Jorgensen, Garrett Francis and 3 by Brooks Robinson.

Coffeyville next match-up will be a double header on Thursday, February 23rd in Bartlesville Oklahoma against the Oklahoma Weselyan JV.   Game times are scheduled for 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
