Red Raven Baseball Opens Up Their KJCCC Season with Two Victories Over Fort Scott

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven baseball team traveled to Fort Scott Kansas to play the Fort Scott Greyhounds in an afternoon double header for their first KJCCC East matchup of the year.  The Red Ravens defeated the Greyhounds 13-6 in game #1 and 15-7 in game #2.

The victories moved the Red Raven's overall season record to 10-6 and 2-0 in KJCCC conference play.

Game #1 saw the Ravens score quickly, getting 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning and then applying pressure on the Greyhounds by scoring 2 in the second, 2 in the third, and 4 in the fourth in coasting to the 13-6 seven inning victory.

The Ravens pounded out 16 hits in 35 at bats.  Freshmen Hunter McMahon and Damon Jorgensen both had home runs in the game.  Red shirt freshman Carson Pickard belted a triple and a double for the Ravens along with doubles from Braden Kirpatrick, Tywon Mackey Jr., and Garrett Francis.

Raven Sophomore lefthander Sam Carver went four innings in the win, allowing 5 earned on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts.

Coffeyville continued the scoring in game #2, outscoring the Greyhounds 15-8 in the nine inning game.

Offensively, Raven freshmen Bret Mitchell pounded out two home runs and sophomore Kyler Cook also added a home run.  Freshmen Tywon Mackey Jr. had a triple and a double and sophomore Braden Kirkpatrick also added a double.  Collectively, the Ravens went 15 for 40 at the plate with only 6 strikeouts and 6 walks.

Raven freshman right hander Gavin Heltemes went a strong 5 innings only allowing 1 earned on 2 hits while striking out 10.

The Ravens return to action this Saturday, March 4th with a home double header rematch scheduled against Fort Scott.  Game times are scheduled for 1:00 and 4:00 pm at Walter Johnson Park.
