Red Raven Baseball Sweeps Allen County To End Regular Season, Awaiting Region VI Playoff Matchup

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven baseball team swept the Allen County Red Devils in a home double header to end the regular season.  The Red Ravens beat the Red Devils 14-9 and 5-3.

With the two wins, the Red Ravens posted an overall season record of 25-28 and a KJCCC conference record of 17-19.  Coffeyville was extremely tough down the stretch winning eight of their last nine games.

Game one of the double header saw Coffeyville pound out 14 hits in the 14-9 victory.  The Red Ravens jumped out to a 10-2 lead after 3 innings.  However, the Red Devils were able to post a six run fifth inning to close the gap to 11-8, but the Red Ravens were able to tack on a three more runs over the last three innings to secure the 14-9, seven inning victory.

Offensively the Red Ravens were led by red shirt freshman Antonio Culotta, sophomore Kyler Cook, freshman Tyler Brown, freshman Bret Mitchell, and sophomore Hunter Kellgren all with two hits each in the game.

Sophomore left hander Sam Carver went 4 2/3 innings on the mound for the Red Ravens allowing six earned on nine hits while striking out five.

In between games a ceremony was held to award the first Conner Taylor Memorial Award.  Sophomore pitcher Bradly Hershey, from Coffeyville Kansas, was the recipient of the Award.  The award is in memorial of Conner Taylor, a 2015 Red Raven Baseball team member, who tragically took his own life.  Conner's dad, Mike Taylor, was in attendance to help hand out the award.

Game two saw the teams tied at three through seven innings before the Red Ravens were able to score two runs in the eight inning to get the 5-3, nine inning victory.

At the plate, Coffeyville was led by sophomore Bryan Mirando with two hits in the game and Kyler Cook with two RBI's.

Sophomore Josh Mapel started on the mound for the Red Ravens going four innings, allowing one earned on four hits while striking out nine.

Coffeyville anxiously awaits their first round Region VI playoff opponent.  The Red Ravens will travel this coming weekend to whomever their opponent ends up being.  The best of three weekend series is tentively set for one game each on Friday (May 5th), Saturday (May 6th), and Sunday (May 7th) if needed.
