Red Raven Baseball Takes 3 of 4 In Weekend Series Against Independence Pirates

In a four game Thursday Saturday weekend series with the Independence Pirates, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven baseball team rolled to victories in three out of the four games. 

The wins improve the Red Raven's overall record to 17-23 and also improves their KJCCC conference record to 9-15.

The first two games were played at Coffeyville on Thursday, April 6th with the Red Ravens winning the first game 9-1 in seven innings and losing the second 4-7.

Offensively, Red Raven sophomore Bryan Miranda went 3 for 8 in the two games with 3 RBI's and a double along with freshmen Damon Jorgensen going 4-7 with a RBI and 3 runs scored and two doubles.

Red Raven freshmen right handed pitcher Gavin Heltemes got the victory in the first game going 5.1 innings allowing no earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 10.

The second set of games were played at Independence on April 8th with the Red Ravens bats coming alive, winning both games 13-6 and 16-8.

Red Raven center fielder Bryan Miranda was a beast in the two games going 8 for 10 at the plate with 4 RBI's and 6 runs scored.  Sophomore Kyler Cook and freshmen Tyler Brown each had 5 RBI's on the day along with sophomore Jose Carrasquillo, sophomore Hunter Kellgren, and freshmen Damon Jorgensen all belting home runs.

As a team on Saturday in the two games, the Red Ravens batted .448 (35 for 78) with 8 doubles, 3 triples and 3 home runs.

The first game on Saturday saw Coffeyville right handers Josh Mapel, Walker Secrist and Bradly Hershey combine to go the 9 innings allowing 6 earned on 15 hits while striking out 9.  Red shirt freshmen Walker Secrist earned the victory (2-0).

In the second game, sophomore left hander Sam Carver got the victory (4-4) for the Red Ravens going 4.1 innings allowing 5 runs on 9 hits and striking out 1.

Coffeyville will take the field next on Thursday, April 13th with a home double header scheduled against Labette Community College.  Game times at Walter Johnson park are set for 2:00 and 5:00 p.m.
