Four Red Ravens Selected for All-Region VI

Four Red Ravens Selected for All-Region VI

Four Red Ravens were selected for the NJCAA All-Region VI teams for their excellent play throughout the 2017-2018 season.

Travis "TJ" Washington, sophomore guard, was named to the First team All-Region VI.  In conference play, Washington averaged 13.2 points per game, had 91 assists (3rd most), and 35 steals (5th most).  Washington was a mainstream player throughout the season, one who caught the eye of not only conference coaches, but NJCAA wide.  He was a leader on the floor for the Red Ravens, playing in all 26 conference games and logging 776 conference minutes.

Marvin Johnson, freshman guard, was also named to the First Team All-Region VI squad.  The freshman highlight reel posted 14.4 points per game, a 47.3 shooting percentage, 95 rebounds, 44 steals (lead conference), and 18 blocks.  He also averaged 25.2 points per 40 minutes (regulation time) in conference which lead the conference.  Johnson showed great promise in his freshman campaign.  Throughout the year, you could see the maturation he would go through.  With great leadership to follow in head coach Jay Herkelman and fellow starter, TJ Washington, Johnson was able to perform to his maximum ability.  The KJCCC and NJCAA had their eyes wide open watching the freshman dazzle opponents with his athleticism and ability to get to the rim.

The women's basketball team was also represented in the All-Region VI selections.

Lucy Burke, sophomore forward, was selected to the Second Team All-Region VI.  Burke was one of the leaders on an injury plagued team in 2017-2018.  Burke showed great range from the three point line going 62/183 for a 33.9 percentage (13th in conference), while averaging 11.3 points per game (11th most), and 19 blocks.  Burke represented the women last year in postseason awards and continues to do so this year.  A highlight for Burke this season was the buzzer beating three pointer that won the game for the Red Ravens against #3 Seward County.

Sky "The Limit" Jasper, sophomore forward, represented the women's program as well by being selected Honorable Mention All-Region VI.  Perhaps one of the quietest performers in the KJCCC it was easy to overlook Jasper's accomplishments.  Jasper placed 14th in the conference with 11.7 points per game (in conference), while shooting 41.4 percent.  The sophomore grabbed a total of 119 rebounds and had 48 steals.  Another impressive stat for the undisputed heart beat of the women's team was her 67 assists, which was good enough for 9th in the conference.

Another year down and another year where the Red Ravens men's and women's basketball programs have produced high level athletes.  These four represented their programs, coaches, and school at the highest level.
